Concatenation

During the past century, the society of Iran has been witnessing several democratic revolutions in the hope to achieve basic human rights and democracy, and equality. Surprisingly all of these revolutions ended up with another dictator government to rule the mass, particularly the last one recognized as the Islamic Revolution resulted in creating the Islamic Republic of Iran which after a couple of years turned into a religious totalitarian regime.

From a visual point of view, I would like to investigate the contribution of the traditional patterns of reproducing the authority of power, especially in terms of the religious country of Iran. Persian patterns are the manifestation of supreme values and ideologies. They are well-known as a bridge connecting the two worlds of matter and meaning. Patterns are essential for the production process of any power system. A pattern as a visual and symbolic language is used to materialize abstract ideas. In the same fashion as the hierarchical system of power, the traditional/Islamic visual pattern reproduce themselves by repeating similar forms and creating the concept of unity while plurality.

I tried to represent these repetitional patterns in the Processing programming language and allow the viewer to be involved with this process and create a discourse with them, the opportunity that has never been given to the people by the power structure; patterns have always been imposed as a supreme reality and had the unattainable divan position. Now, in this project, the audience can interact with them and share and hopefully understand the repetitive structure of patterns and can find a connection to the actual repetition of history in this society.
